DOJ Announces Charges in White House Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting Case
The Department of Justice has announced formal charges against the suspect accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend.
At a press conference, Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel detailed the charges against 22-year-old Cole Thomas Allen.
Allen is facing multiple federal counts, including attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, transporting a firearm and ammunition across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. Officials say he made his first court appearance earlier in the day and could face additional charges as the investigation continues.
Authorities described evidence recovered in the case, including a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun, a .38 caliber semi-automatic firearm, knives, and other items they say indicate intent to cause harm. Investigators also said the firearms were allegedly purchased in California and transported across state lines.
Officials emphasized that all evidence is being reviewed “carefully and expeditiously” as the federal investigation moves forward.
