Valley Glen Residents Frustrated Over Abandoned 'Nuisance' Home Frozen in Time

A home in the Valley Glen neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley remains "frozen in time" a year after being destroyed by fire. Residents say the property has become a significant nuisance, featuring charred beams, broken windows, and debris-filled yards.

Neighbors report that the site has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a frequent spot for squatters. One neighbor, Debbie Stopeck, claimed she has called the police 11 times on a man attempting to live on and set fires at the property.

Records show the home was sold in 2023 and went into a short sale in early 2025, just before it burned down. While construction was briefly started, the project was never completed, leaving the structure in its current hazardous state.

Councilman Adrin Nazarian’s office stated they are working with city departments to resolve the issue. Nazarian emphasized that landlords who allow properties to become a danger to the community will be held accountable.

Residents remain skeptical, citing a lack of responsiveness from city officials. Beyond the physical eyesore, the community is raising concerns about potential asbestos exposure from the charred remains. The LA City Attorney’s Criminal Division is currently reviewing the matter.
