Federal Agents Execute 22 Search Warrants in Widening Minnesota Fraud Investigation

According to a report from Public News Service, federal law enforcement agencies launched a massive, coordinated operation in Minnesota on Tuesday, executing 22 search warrants across the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Uniformed agents from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) conducted raids at multiple daycare centers, private businesses, and homes. The investigation centers on allegations of widespread fraud involving federal funding, including programs designed to assist children with autism and state Medicaid services.

The raids mark an escalation of long-standing allegations that some businesses, particularly those within the Somali community, have misused federal funds. This investigation previously gained national attention during a fiery congressional hearing and was a contributing factor in Governor Tim Walz’s decision to withdraw from his reelection campaign earlier this year.

While federal officials stated that Tuesday's actions were not related to immigration enforcement, the operation involved Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a unit within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Twin Cities have remained on edge following a surge of federal immigration agents earlier this year, which led to the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti during a previous enforcement surge.

Evidence teams were seen removing computer monitors and bags of documents from several locations, including the former Quality Learning Center and the Somali Senior Center. State regulators had previously cleared some of these businesses of wrongdoing following a viral video by a conservative content creator, but federal investigators appear to have uncovered further evidence of financial misconduct.

This latest wave of enforcement is part of a broader crackdown on social service fraud in Minnesota. The "Feeding Our Future" probe has already resulted in 65 convictions, including that of the scheme's mastermind, Aimee Bock. As federal and state agencies continue to share information, officials stated they remain committed to holding those responsible for the abuse of taxpayer dollars accountable.
