Firebirds Face Ontario Reign in Round Two Opener of Calder Cup Playoffs
The Coachella Valley Firebirds are back on the ice tonight as they open round two of the Calder Cup Playoffs against the Ontario Reign.
Game one is set for a 7 p.m. puck drop at Toyota Arena, where fans have already started filing in for what’s expected to be an energetic playoff atmosphere.
The matchup adds another chapter to a growing rivalry between the two teams, sometimes referred to as the “I-10 showdown.” The Firebirds previously swept the Reign in their last playoff meeting, including a series-clinching win in Ontario that drew strong support from traveling Firebirds fans.
Heading into tonight, momentum could play a key role. The Firebirds are coming off a recent series and remain in playoff rhythm, while the Reign have had an extended break since April 18. Early moments in the game—especially the opening minutes—are expected to be critical as both teams settle in.
One player to watch is Jacob Melanson, who was instrumental in the Firebirds’ first-round success. His physical play and scoring ability could once again be a deciding factor.
A full recap of game one will air tonight at 11 p.m. on NBC Palm Springs.
