Moderate Earthquake Shakes Area Near Desert Hot Springs Wednesday Morning

A moderate earthquake struck on Wednesday morning near the Desert Hot Springs area. The quake hit about 8 miles north of Cabazon, roughly 41 miles west of Indio, near Desert Hot Springs.
The United States Geological Survey recorded the quake at 7:47 a.m., with the shaking originating at a depth of about 9.6 miles underground. Shallow quakes like this one tend to be felt more strongly at the surface, though the 3.2 magnitude is generally considered minor and unlikely to cause structural damage.
No injuries or significant damage have been reported at this time. Residents who felt shaking are encouraged to check their homes for any gas leaks or fallen objects, and to report their experience at earthquake.usgs.gov.
