Palm Springs Launches Annual Brush Removal Effort Ahead of Fire Season
As wildfire season approaches, the Palm Springs Fire Department is kicking off its annual brush removal program to help reduce fire risk across the city.
The effort begins May 5 at 9 a.m. at the Palm Springs Visitor Information Center and will run through July 1.
Over the next two months, city crews plan to clear approximately 101 acres of dry brush and trim vegetation across 14 city-owned vacant lots.
Fire officials say the program is a key part of wildfire prevention, especially in areas prone to fast-moving fires fueled by dry conditions and strong winds.
They’re also urging residents to do their part by clearing brush, trimming vegetation, and maintaining defensible space around their homes to help protect both property and first responders during fire season.
