White Settlement Officers Rescue Mother of Three from Rushing Flood Waters Using Jumper Cables

Officers with the White Settlement Police Department are being commended for their heroic efforts after rescuing a mother and her three children from rapidly rising flood waters during a severe storm this past weekend. The dramatic rescue, which occurred late Saturday night on April 25, 2026, was captured from multiple angles on dashboard and body-worn cameras.

The emergency began around 11 p.m. along Western Hills Boulevard when Sergeant John Banner observed a vehicle become stranded and high-centered on a curb. As flood waters from a nearby channel rushed toward a creek, the front of the car became trapped, threatening to sweep the vehicle away with the driver still inside.

Fortunately, the woman’s three children were able to exit the car safely and were placed in a patrol vehicle by Sergeant Banner to ensure their safety. However, the mother remained trapped in the driver's seat as the water levels continued to rise. Realizing the immediate danger and that the fire department was still en route, officers were forced to improvise a solution.

In a creative move to secure the mother, officers utilized a pair of jumper cables as a makeshift safety line. Sergeant Banner developed a rapport with the woman and maintained constant communication, keeping her calm while she secured herself with the cables. Once firefighters arrived, they were able to hook a cable to the vehicle and safely pull it back to the roadway, reuniting the mother with her children.

In the wake of the incident, White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook praised the proactive response and ingenuity of his team. Chief Cook announced that following a review of the rescue, every patrol car in the department will now be outfitted with a specialized water rescue throw bag to better prepare officers for similar flash-flooding emergencies in the future.
