American Airlines Resumes Nonstop Miami-to-Venezuela Flights for First Time Since 2019

A new chapter in U.S.-Venezuela relations officially took flight on Thursday as American Airlines resumed nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Caracas. The emotional reunion at the gate marked the first time in seven years that passengers could travel directly between the two cities.

The U.S. suspended all flights to Venezuela in 2019 due to political instability and safety concerns. However, following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro nearly four months ago, the Trump Administration has moved forward with a transition plan aimed at the country’s economic recovery.

"I have been waiting for this moment for a long time," said Jorge Gallardo, one of the many passengers on the inaugural flight. "I want to go see my family, my mom, everything."

U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Natalia Molano described the flight renewal as a "tangible result" of the current administration’s leadership during the recovery phase. Travel agents are also celebrating the move, noting that the direct connection will facilitate both humanitarian visits and renewed business ties.

While many in South Florida’s Venezuelan community view the day as an "answered prayer," some remain cautious. Cesar Doza, who has family in Venezuela, noted that while the flights are a start, more change is needed for expats to feel truly safe returning home.

American Airlines expects to add a second daily flight to Caracas next month, with plans to expand to additional Venezuelan destinations later this year.
