Big Bear Eaglets Officially Named Sandy and Luna
The eaglets of Big Bear Valley that have captured attention across the region now have official names: Sandy and Luna.
The naming contest, hosted by Friends of Big Bear Valley, drew more than 63,000 submissions, helping raise funds for wildlife conservation efforts.
“Sandy” was chosen in honor of a founding member, Sandy Steers, of the nonprofit who recently passed away, making the name especially meaningful to the organization and its supporters.
“Luna" was chosen to reflect nature, and fittingly, a full moon is expected to light up the sky tonight.
The eaglets have been watched by thousands through the group’s live nest cam, offering a rare and intimate look at wildlife right here in Southern California.
A special moment for both the community and conservationists, as these young eagles continue to grow under watchful eyes.
