Coachella Valley High School Girls Soccer Team Awarded Key to the City After Historic Season

Tonight, the Coachella Valley High School Lady Arabs varsity girls soccer team was celebrated in a big way—receiving the key to the city after an unforgettable season that captured the hearts of an entire community.

It was a year filled with milestones and memories. The Lady Arabs secured the CIF Division 5 championship, marking the school’s first soccer title since the boys team accomplished the feat back in 2007. Riding that momentum, the team pushed all the way to the state championship game. While they ultimately fell short of bringing home the state crown, their journey had already cemented them as champions in the eyes of their supporters.

Head coach Francisco Morales says the recognition is a direct reflection of the players’ years of dedication and sacrifice.

“It was them doing those sacrifices for so many years,” Morales said. “This is really their accomplishment. For me, it’s just an honor and a blessing to be a part of that journey with them.”

The ceremony brought the team back to their home field, where the season’s magic unfolded. For junior goalkeeper Vanessa Garcia, the moment was deeply meaningful.

“Being back on this field means everything to me,” Garcia said. “Throughout the season there were ups and downs, but the community was always there. Hearing them cheer for us gave us confidence, especially during high-pressure moments.”

While players credit the city for lifting them up, local leaders say the team’s success did just as much—if not more—for the community.

City staff noted the overwhelming turnout at games, pointing to packed stands and a shared sense of pride as evidence of the team’s impact.

“I went to the games and saw the crowds they brought out,” one city representative said. “The amount of people that came to support them tells you everything.”

In the end, the key to the city symbolizes more than just wins and titles—it represents unity, pride, and the powerful connection between a team and the community that stood behind them every step of the way.
