Desert Magic: Project Angel Food Raises Over $150,000 for Critically Ill Neighbors and Local Food Bank
PALM SPRINGS, CA — The spirit of giving was on full display in the desert yesterday as Project Angel Food hosted its second annual fundraising celebration at the historic Bella Vista Estate. The afternoon event, which brought together donors and high-profile supporters, successfully raised more than $150,000 to support the organization's mission of delivering medically tailored meals with love, care, and dignity.
The lively affair was hosted by actress and comedian Caroline Rhea, who led an energetic auction that contributed to the record-breaking total. Guests were treated to an afternoon of music, including a performance by Broadway and recording artist Sam Harris, who was accompanied by "American Idol" musical director Michael Orland. Catering for the event was provided by local favorite Eight4Nine.
While Project Angel Food is primarily known for serving thousands of critically ill residents across Los Angeles County, this desert event highlighted a unique local partnership. Organizers announced that a portion of the funds raised yesterday will go directly to support the food bank at the LGBT Community Center of the Desert.
"We have a lot of people who live in LA and Palm Springs who want to help us," Project Angel Food CEO Richard Ayoub noted. "So we said, let's help the food bank at the LGBT Community Center. This celebration is about the light this organization brings to people, born from a dark time during the AIDS crisis."
Project Angel Food has been operating for over 40 years, providing specialized nutrition to those facing life-threatening illnesses. Beyond the financial success of the afternoon, speakers emphasized the "soul-fulfilling" nature of the work, inviting the desert community to experience the impact of personally delivering hope and health to those in need.
