An NBC Palm Springs Weather Heads-Up on Monday, May 4, 2026!
As a trough of low pressure moves through the Southwest, we'll experience cooler temperatures, a few light Southern California showers, strong winds and poor air quality.
Because of strong, gusty on-shore winds, a Wind Advisory has been posted for the very West end of the Coachella Valley into the San Gorgonio Pass including areas of the High Desert. Also, due to elevated dust and dirt, an Air Quality Alert continues for the Coachella Valley. Although both alerts are set to expire this evening, Westerly winds will still be an issue Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The frontal boundary will also usher in cooler air for both today and tomorrow when Valley high temperatures peak in the upper-70s/lower-80s both afternoons.
Any precipitation with this system will be light and widely scattered and fall West of the Coachella Valley through Tuesday.
Next -- as an upper-level ridge of high pressure builds over the Southwest -- skies will clear, surface air will dry, and temperatures will rise. The Valley will warm from around 90° on Wednesday to over 100° beginning Friday into the middle of next week.
