Must-Win Territory: Coachella Valley Firebirds Face Elimination in Game 4 Against Ontario Reign

The Coachella Valley Firebirds find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they return home to the desert. Following a narrow 2-1 loss on Tuesday night, the Firebirds are now down 2-1 in their best-of-five second-round series against the Ontario Reign. With their season on the line, the team is calling on the "Let's Go Firebirds" faithful to pack Acrisure Arena this Thursday for a do-or-die Game 4.

This marks the fourth consecutive year the Firebirds have reached the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, but the road to the trophy has hit a significant speed bump in the form of their I-10 rivals.

Series at a Glance

The series has been a defensive tug-of-war punctuated by explosive momentum shifts.

  • Game 1: The Firebirds opened the series with a statement 3-0 victory at Toyota Arena. Goaltender Nikke Kokko recorded a 23-save shutout, while J.R. Avon found the back of the net twice. Oscar Fisker Molgaard added his fourth goal of the postseason to seal the win.

  • Game 2: Ontario responded with a dominant 5-1 win on Friday night. Lleyton Roed provided the only spark for Coachella Valley, while Molgaard continued his offensive tear, currently leading the team with 7 points (4 goals, 3 assists) in the playoffs.

  • Game 3: In a heartbreaking return to the Valley on Tuesday, the Firebirds were edged 2-1. Jani Nyman put the home team on the board early in the first period, but two quick goals by the Reign in the third period—spanning just 80 seconds—proved to be the difference.

The Road Ahead

The Firebirds must now win two straight games to advance to the next round. Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Acrisure Arena. If the Firebirds can stave off elimination, the series will head back to Ontario for a winner-take-all Game 5 on Saturday, May 9, at 6:00 p.m.

Fan Experience: Protect the Den

Team officials are urging fans to arrive early on Thursday to participate in pregame events designed to "bring the noise." The Oasis outside Acrisure Arena will open for a Happy Hour featuring 5 dollar beers and 10 dollar wine specials.

The pregame atmosphere will include:

  • Live Music: DJ Alf Alpha will be performing in the Oasis.

  • Giveaways: Thundersticks and exclusive Firebirds/Los Firebirds bandanas will be available (while supplies last) for fans who scan the QR code in the Oasis.

  • Entertainment: A Firebirds tattoo station and live jugglers will be on-site to entertain families before puck drop.

Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:50 p.m. for the opening ceremonies as the Firebirds look to keep their 2026 postseason run—presented by Spotlight 29 Casino—alive.
