Talking with Thalia: Local Short Film Showcases Coachella Valley Community
As a way to celebrate the spirit and beauty of the Coachella Valley, a local production company has spent the last two years creating a 30-minute short film featuring desert hotspots and familiar faces.
Hearts on the Fairway is making its debut this weekend at the Mary Pickford Theatre in Cathedral City. The film stars actress and producer Stephanie Wilson, who portrays Gracie—a caregiver navigating financial hardships while supporting her mother.
Told through a caregiver’s perspective, the film dives into themes of resilience, friendship, and community support. It also highlights local culture, including recognizable spots and businesses throughout the valley, giving viewers a sense of familiarity and pride.
Wilson teamed up with local filmmaker Steve Tanguy, who led the project from its early storytelling stages through production. The duo has collaborated before on award-winning projects, including The Long Way Back, another film shot locally.
The premiere at the Mary Pickford Theatre quickly reached capacity, selling out within 24 hours. Due to overwhelming demand, a second public screening has been scheduled at Shadow Mountain Golf Course in Palm Desert. The outdoor event will feature music and food starting at 6:30 p.m., with the film screening at 8 p.m.
Organizers hope audiences walk away with a deeper appreciation for the strength of community and the shared experiences that bring people together. Beyond its emotional message, the film also shines a spotlight on the valley’s vibrant golf culture and scenic landscapes.
