Water Wise Wednesday Highlights Tasman Lily as May’s Plant of the Month

The Coachella Valley Water District is featuring the Tasman lily as its Plant of the Month for May as part of its ongoing Water Wise Wednesday campaign.

According to CVWD Communications Manager Lorraine Garcia, the Tasman lily is a versatile and attractive plant that works well in desert-friendly landscapes. The plant features strap-like green leaves, with some varieties displaying white variegated stripes, and typically grows in compact three-foot clumps.

The Tasman lily thrives in partial shade and also performs well in containers and pots, making it a good option for shaded patios or garden corners. In spring, the plant produces deep blue flowers followed by metallic-colored berries during the summer months.

As temperatures begin rising across the desert, officials are reminding residents to prioritize drought-tolerant and water-efficient plants in their landscaping. Desert-friendly plants generally require less irrigation and are better suited for the region’s climate.
