Indio City Council Appoints Jonathan Nicks as New City Manager

The Indio City Council has officially named Jonathan Nicks as the city’s next city manager, promoting him from his current role as assistant city manager.

Nicks, who has served in the assistant city manager position since 2024, will take over leadership duties following the retirement of current City Manager Brian Montgomery later this summer.

Before joining the city of Indio, Nicks served as deputy city manager for the city of Menifee and also worked as deputy director for Orange County Parks. City leaders said his experience in local government and public administration made him a strong choice to guide the city forward.

Montgomery’s tenure as city manager included several high-profile initiatives and development projects throughout Indio. City officials credited his leadership in advancing downtown revitalization efforts, overseeing the development of the city’s public safety campus, and supporting other major community improvements.

The council’s decision marks a leadership transition as Indio continues ongoing development and infrastructure projects aimed at supporting the city’s growth.
