AAA Predicts Record-Breaking Memorial Day Travel Weekend

AAA is forecasting a record 45 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home this Memorial Day weekend, between Thursday, May 22 and Monday, May 26.

Of those travelers, 39 million are expected to hit the roads, while another 3.66 million will fly to their destinations. AAA spokesperson Robert Sinclair says that despite fuel prices running substantially higher than last year, many people are still choosing to prioritize holiday travel.

AAA is reminding drivers to slow down, move over, and drive sober with so many people expected on the roads. The organization also encourages anyone driving to check their vehicle before heading out, including tire pressure and engine fluids. Last Memorial Day weekend, AAA responded to more than 300,000 emergency roadside assistance calls nationwide.
