Indio Opens Cooling Centers as Triple-Digit Heat Arrives

As triple-digit temperatures move into the region, the City of Indio has opened cooling centers to provide relief for residents.

Adults 50 and older can visit the Indio Senior Center during weekdays, where officials say the goal is to offer a safe, comfortable place to escape the heat, especially for those experiencing issues with home air conditioning.

Hours at Indio Senior Center are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

City staff say the center provides water, snacks, and a space for residents to cool down and socialize during extreme heat conditions.

For residents under 50, the Molina Healthcare One-Stop Health Center is also available as a cooling location.

Officials say the centers are part of the city’s effort to reduce heat-related health risks as temperatures continue to rise across the Coachella Valley.
