Know Before You Go: Road Work Ahead This Week in the Coachella Valley
Drivers in Cathedral City should plan ahead at the intersection of Cathedral Canyon Drive and Dinah Shore Drive today and tomorrow. Crews are upgrading traffic signals there, with work running from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days. Expect intermittent lane closures and possible delays. At times, signals may flash red during equipment installation, so treat that intersection as a four-way stop if that happens. Cathedral City is asking drivers to slow down in the work zone and take alternate routes when possible.
Also in Cathedral City, if you travel along East Palm Canyon Drive between Date Palm Drive and Sungate Way, crews are still on site this week, wrapping up the eastbound phase of a median monument installation project. After eastbound work wraps up this week, crews will move over to the west side of the roadway.
That work is scheduled to continue through May 29, when the full project wraps up. At least one lane will remain open throughout construction.
In Palm Springs, Caltrans will kick off overnight roadway work on Highway 111 between Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail tonight, and crews will be out nightly through Thursday morning. Work runs from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
Crews are diamond grinding the pavement to smooth out the road surface, closing the number one lane in roughly two-mile stretches at a time. Tonight's work focuses on Northbound Highway 111 from Mesquite Road to Escena Way. Later in the week, work shifts to the southbound side. If you're out late, slow down and follow posted signs through the work zones.
