Antisemitic Graffiti Defaces Sept. 11 Memorial in Wisconsin Village

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the individuals responsible for defacing a Sept. 11 memorial in the village of Lisbon. Over the weekend, vandals spray-painted swastikas on the monument and left references to the Bible on the village hall building.

Village Administrator Daniel Green stated that the community has been deeply affected by the act, describing Lisbon as a hard-working, blue-collar village where the memorial holds significant emotional weight. The monument, which features an authentic steel beam from the Twin Towers, was built through local donations and community support.

Crews arrived on Monday to erase the antisemitic symbols using power washers and special chemical agents. Workers took extra care to ensure the historic steel beam was not damaged during the cleaning process. Green noted that while the village hall building can be repaired or repainted, the defacement of a memorial meant to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks is particularly painful for residents.

The memorial was originally a project of the Lisbon Fire Department, which sought to create a tribute to those killed in the 2001 attacks. Local leaders hope that the immediate removal of the graffiti will help the community move forward while the investigation continues.

No arrests have been made at this time. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact local authorities.
