Burglars Use Bear Spray on Family Dog and Signal Jammers in High Tech La Canada Break In
Security footage has captured the moment three masked suspects broke into a La Canada home last week, using bear spray on a family dog before ransacking the residence. Homeowner Diana Avetyan says the suspects forced their way inside while she was away, leaving her dog, Chloe, to face the intruders alone.
Cameras captured the group rushing out of the home with pillowcases filled with high value items, including jewelry, designer handbags, and a watch belonging to Avetyan's grandfather. Beyond the theft, Avetyan discovered that the burglars utilized signal jammers carried in their backpacks to disable portions of her security system, preventing the cameras from recording the full duration of the crime.
Before the system cut out, a white Kia was spotted waiting nearby. Avetyan believe this vehicle and the suspects are the same individuals responsible for a series of recent crimes in the Los Angeles area. Last Friday in Studio City, a man was also targeted with bear spray after confronting burglars at a neighbors house. In that instance, the thieves fled in a white Kia with a blacked out windshield.
A third incident was reported Sunday night in Beverly Grove, where three masked suspects connected to a white Kia attempted to break into a home while a nanny and two small children were inside. While the security system scared those intruders away, the similarities in the getaway car and the suspects gear have left victims on edge.
Despite the striking similarities in the surveillance footage and the specific use of bear spray as a weapon, LAPD detectives stated they have not yet made an official connection between the three cases. Avetyan says the experience has left her feeling violated and she is now preparing to move her family out of the neighborhood.
