California Governor’s Race Enters Critical Final Stretch Ahead of Primary
As California voters prepare to cast their ballots, candidates in the race for governor are making a final push to stand out in a contest that could shape the future of the state.
With the primary election now less than a month away, the campaign trail has intensified as candidates focus on the issues they say matter most to Californians — including public safety, housing affordability, homelessness, and the rising cost of living.
Three candidates, each with sharply different backgrounds and priorities, are emerging with distinct messages as they compete for support across the state.
Longtime Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco has centered his campaign on public safety, crime prevention, and border security. The Republican candidate has also sharply criticized current state leadership, arguing California needs a tougher approach to law enforcement and public safety challenges.
Billionaire businessman and activist Tom Steyer is campaigning heavily on economic opportunity, climate policy, and housing expansion. Steyer’s campaign has focused on the affordability crisis facing many Californians, while promoting plans aimed at creating jobs and increasing access to housing statewide.
Meanwhile, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is positioning himself as a Democrat focused on what he calls getting California “back to the basics.” Mahan has emphasized efforts to reduce street homelessness, expand affordable housing, and rebuild public trust in government through measurable results.
The San Jose mayor argues many Californians have grown frustrated with state leadership and says voters are looking for practical solutions to everyday challenges.
From public safety to housing and the cost of living, the outcome of the governor’s race could play a major role in shaping California’s next chapter.
With the primary approaching quickly, the campaign is entering a pivotal stage as voters weigh which candidate they believe is best prepared to lead California through a defining moment for the state’s future.
