Arizona Woman to Be Sentenced in Deadly Indio Motel Shooting

An Arizona woman convicted in a deadly shooting at an Indio motel is expected to be sentenced Friday morning.

A jury previously found 35-year-old Karla Charisse Flores guilty of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the 2021 death of 27-year-old Ashley Brito of Thousand Palms.

Flores had originally faced a murder charge but was acquitted of that count. Jurors instead convicted her on the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter, along with a firearm enhancement tied to the shooting.

According to court proceedings, the deadly incident occurred at a motel in Indio in 2021. Additional details surrounding the confrontation were not immediately released.

A judge is expected to sentence Flores to more than 15 years in state prison.
