Indio Opens 30-Acre Sports Park This Weekend with Free Celebration

The public is invited to the grand opening of Indio's newest sports park this Saturday, May 16, as the city cuts the ribbon on their newest recreational destination with a free celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The 30-acre park features 11 soccer fields, including a professional-level field adaptable for football, two baseball and softball fields, a perimeter walking path, picnic areas with shade structures and BBQs, a concession stand, restrooms, and drinking fountains. The opening event will include games and giveaways for all ages.
The city is marking the occasion alongside two other milestones: Indio's 96th birthday and National Kids to Parks Day.
The $12.9 million project was funded largely through an $8.5 million State Parks Proposition 68 grant, with the remainder coming from Measure X, Community Development Block Grant funding, and the city's general fund. Mayor Elaine Holmes called it "a major investment in our community and our future," adding that the space "was shaped by our residents and built to support our youth, bring families together, and create a vibrant place for recreation and community life."
The park sits at 82600 Market St. in central Indio with easy access to the I-10 freeway, Jackson Street, and Monroe Street.
