Riverside County Pursues Legal Action in Anza Duck Sanctuary Investigation
Riverside County Board of Supervisors is taking legal action in an ongoing animal welfare case involving a duck sanctuary in Anza.
County leaders directed county counsel, along with animal services and code enforcement officials, to begin litigation against the sanctuary operator and the owner of the property involved in the investigation.
Officials say the case stems from an ongoing animal welfare investigation that began in 2022 and has involved multiple properties over the course of the inquiry.
The investigation has also led to changes in Riverside County’s animal adoption policies. County officials say new agreements are now being implemented for animals other than dogs and cats to help ensure proper placement and care.
Local rescue organizations say they are currently working with the county to place the birds into safe pet-only homes where they can receive appropriate veterinary treatment and long-term care.
County officials have not yet released additional details regarding the pending litigation or the total number of birds involved in the case.
