Palm Springs City Council to Fill Seats on Four Community Commissions

Palm Springs City Council to Fill Seats on Four Community Commissions

Palm Springs City Council is holding a special session next Tuesday, May 19, giving residents a rare chance to watch who gets appointed to the boards that help shape city decisions.

The meeting starts at 1:00 p.m. at City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way. Council members will spend the afternoon interviewing applicants and voting on appointments to four commissions: the Historic Site Preservation Board, the Human Rights Commission, the Measure J Oversight Commission, and the Planning Commission.

The seats up for grabs carry real weight. The Planning Commission reviews development projects across the city. The Measure J Oversight Commission monitors how Palm Springs spends the local sales tax revenue voters approved. The Human Rights Commission works on equity and civil rights issues citywide, and the Historic Site Preservation Board oversees decisions about the city's landmark buildings and neighborhoods.

In total, the council will fill more than a dozen seats across the four bodies, with most terms running through June 30, 2029. On the Measure J commission specifically, the council will also reappoint Jack Newby and Paul Travis as voting members.

The meeting streams live on the city's website at PalmSpringsCA.gov, on YouTube, and on Spectrum Channel 17.
