Trump Drops $10 Billion Lawsuit Over Tax Return Leak
President Donald Trump has dropped a $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over the leak of his tax returns, according to new court filings in Florida.
The lawsuit, filed by Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, along with the Trump Organization, accused the IRS of failing to prevent a former employee from improperly disclosing confidential tax information to media outlets.
Court documents filed today show all parties agreed to dismiss the lawsuit. The filings do not indicate whether the decision was part of a broader legal agreement or settlement.
The case centered on allegations that a former IRS contractor leaked President Trump’s tax returns and other financial information to two news organizations between 2018 and 2020.
The judge overseeing the case had previously questioned whether the lawsuit presented an active legal controversy, noting Trump’s control over the Justice Department while in office.
In 2024, the former IRS contractor was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawfully leaking tax information involving Trump and other individuals.
A representative for Trump’s legal team did not immediately respond to requests for comment from NBC News.
