Brush Fire in Jurupa Valley Injures Four, Forces Evacuations Near Riverside
A growing brush fire in Jurupa Valley injured four people and forced evacuations Tuesday as flames threatened neighborhoods near Riverside.
The fire broke out shortly after 11:20 a.m. near Bain Street, north of the Hidden Valley Nature Center.
Firefighters from multiple agencies responded as strong winds pushed flames through thick brush. Helicopters and air tankers assisted crews from the air, dropping water in an effort to slow the fire’s spread.
Officials say three people suffered smoke inhalation while another person sustained traumatic injuries. The extent of those injuries has not been released.
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for neighborhoods near Arlington and Western avenues as the fire moved closer to homes. Crews also reported dealing with downed power lines in the area, creating additional hazards for firefighters and residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
