Indio Set to Reopen New Avenue 44 All-Weather Bridge

The Indio is set to reopen its new all-weather bridge on Avenue 44 Tuesday afternoon following the completion of a major infrastructure project.

The bridge replaces the former low-water crossing over the Coachella Valley storm water channel, which was heavily damaged and washed out during Tropical Storm Hilary in 2023.

City officials say the new structure is designed to improve year-round access for both drivers and pedestrians while also strengthening flood resiliency and public safety in the area.

The bridge is scheduled to officially reopen to vehicle and pedestrian traffic Tuesday, May 19th at 2 p.m.

Officials say the project represents a significant investment in infrastructure aimed at better protecting the community during future severe weather events.
