Sandy Fire in Simi Valley Burns 1,400 Acres, Containment at 5%

Fire crews are continuing to battle the Sandy Fire burning in Simi Valley, where containment remains at just 5 percent.

Officials with CAL FIRE say calmer overnight winds helped firefighters gain some progress on the blaze, though it continues to threaten steep, brush-covered terrain.

The fire has scorched roughly 1,400 acres in Ventura County and destroyed at least one home at the base of a burning hillside.

Evacuation warnings remain in place for several areas, with officials expanding alerts to southeastern neighborhoods and urging residents to be prepared to leave if conditions worsen.

An air assault operation remains underway, with helicopters dropping water on hot spots as crews work to slow the fire’s spread across difficult terrain.

No injuries have been reported so far, according to officials.
