Desert X Student Art Exhibit Showcases More Than 100 Local Young Artists

More than 100 local students are getting their artwork showcased through a special exhibition connected to Desert X.

The Desert X Art Club Student Exhibition is now on display at Melissa Morgan Fine Art in Palm Desert and runs through June 7.

The exhibit features artwork created by students enrolled in Desert X Art Club, a free after-school program designed to expose young people to the wide range of artistic expression throughout the Coachella Valley.

Students from five schools in the Desert Sands Unified School District created the pieces on display, which include a variety of artistic styles and mediums.

Program organizers say the initiative goes beyond traditional classroom learning by introducing students to local artists, museums and cultural institutions they may not otherwise have access to. They say many arts experiences in the valley are free or accessible, but students and families are not always aware of those opportunities or have the resources to visit them.

The program also aims to broaden students’ perspectives on art by connecting them to institutions like the Palm Springs Art Museum and Sunnylands Center & Gardens.

The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, with the exhibition continuing through June 7.
