Palm Springs Air Museum Set to Host Annual Memorial Day Flower Drop and Air Fair
The Palm Springs Air Museum is completing final preparations for its highly anticipated annual Memorial Day Flower Drop and Air Fair, scheduled to take place on Monday, May 25, 2026. This long-standing Coachella Valley holiday tradition provides a comprehensive, family-friendly day of remembrance and celebration, featuring historic flight demonstrations, live musical entertainment, local food vendors, and vintage warbird rides. The event gates will officially open to the public at 10:00 AM, allowing residents and visitors an opportunity to get an up-close look at the facility's extensive aviation history collection.
The emotional cornerstone of the event will begin at 1:00 PM with a formal memorial ceremony that honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The highlight of the afternoon will unfold shortly after the ceremony when a traditional missing man formation takes to the skies. Four vintage warbirds will fly over the tarmac, releasing a blanket of 5,000 red and white carnations over the crowd. Organizers emphasize that the colors carry significant meaning, with white carnations symbolizing veterans of World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, while red carnations pay tribute to service members lost in more recent conflicts like Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Additionally, a dozen red roses will be included in the drop to explicitly honor regional Gold Star families.
In addition to saluting all fallen United States armed forces members, this year’s commemoration carries an extra layer of historical significance as it recognizes the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Attendees at the event will have the unique privilege of meeting three decorated Vietnam aviator honorees, including Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross recipients. Standard museum admission rates apply for the day, though current museum members and children twelve and under accompanied by a paid adult receive free entry. Community members looking to learn more about the schedule or purchase advanced tickets can visit the newsroom tab on the station website.
