Trump Announces Iran War Deal is 'Largely Negotiated' Following Middle East Diplomacy

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced a potential breakthrough in the war with Iran on Saturday, declaring that a peace agreement has been largely negotiated and is now entering its final stages.

In a post on Truth Social following an unusual Saturday afternoon conference call with the leaders of Pakistan and several American allies across the Middle East, Trump stated that an agreement is subject to finalization between the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and various other nations. He added that the final aspects and details of the deal are currently being discussed and will be announced shortly.

According to the president, the proposed deal will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime waterway that has been largely shut down since the outbreak of hostilities. The closure of the strait has throttled global shipping, caused oil prices to spike worldwide, and driven U.S. domestic gasoline prices to their highest levels in years.

Notably, the initial announcement made no mention of any immediate concessions by Iran regarding its nuclear program. President Trump has long maintained that preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon was a primary objective of the war, frequently insisting that Iran surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium as a prerequisite for peace. In previous remarks, Trump stated the U.S. would likely destroy the stockpile upon receiving it rather than letting Iran retain custody.

Earlier in the day, Iran's Foreign Ministry indicated that discussions regarding nuclear limitations could be deferred to a separate round of negotiations, potentially extending over the next 60 days.

The impending agreement is likely to draw disappointment from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had hoped the joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign would ultimately result in the overthrow of the Iranian regime. However, President Trump noted that he spoke directly with the Israeli leader, describing their phone call as having gone very well.

The sudden diplomatic breakthrough follows a last-ditch mediation effort led by Pakistan's military chief during a recent high-level diplomatic mission to Tehran. As negotiators work to finalize the text, observers worldwide are waiting to see if the agreement will successfully halt active fighting and pave the way for a durable peace in the region.
