Palm Springs Air Museum Honors Fallen Service Members With Annual Memorial Day Flower Drop

The Palm Springs Air Museum honored fallen service members Monday with its annual Memorial Day Flower Drop, a longtime tradition drawing families, veterans and aviation enthusiasts from across the region.

Thousands gathered to watch 3,000 red and white carnations fall from a vintage North American B-25 Mitchell bomber during the emotional tribute. Officials say each carnation symbolized a service member who gave their life for the country.

Attendees were invited to collect flowers following the ceremony, continuing a tradition many families return to year after year.

Visitors also enjoyed flight exhibitions throughout the day, including flyovers featuring vintage military aircraft, or warbirds, ahead of the afternoon flower drop.

Many longtime attendees described the event as both meaningful and personal, with some saying they have attended the ceremony for decades to honor veterans and celebrate military history.

The annual Memorial Day event remains one of the Air Museum’s signature tributes to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
