Desert Hot Springs Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug and Weapons Bust

A routine traffic stop in Desert Hot Springs turned into a major drug and weapons bust after officers allegedly discovered more than a pound of fentanyl during a vehicle search.

According to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, 35-year-old Jose Luis Gutierrez was arrested Friday after officers pulled him over for a traffic violation and learned he had an active felony warrant.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators say they found more than one pound of fentanyl, along with methamphetamine, cocaine and Xanax pills.

Police also recovered four loaded firearms and more than 200 rounds of ammunition from the vehicle.

Gutierrez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on multiple suspected drug and weapons-related charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
