Gene Autry, N. Indian Canyon Closed at the Wash
Drivers in Palm Springs are facing major traffic disruptions after city officials shut down two key roadways due to dangerous visibility conditions caused by blowing dust.
The Palm Springs closed North Gene Autry Trail and North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash Tuesday as strong winds pushed dust and sand across roadways, creating hazardous travel conditions.
NBC Palm Springs crews captured video of the closures as visibility dropped across parts of the city.
The closures come as a windblown dust advisory remains in effect for the Coachella Valley through 5 a.m. Wednesday, with strong gusts contributing to reduced visibility and poor air quality.
Officials are urging drivers to avoid the affected areas and use alternate routes until conditions improve. Residents, especially those sensitive to air pollution, are also encouraged to stay indoors and limit outdoor activity during the advisory.
There is no immediate timeline for when the roads will reopen, though officials are expected to monitor conditions overnight.
