Honda & Toyota of the Desert Fight Childhood Hunger This Summer
Two Coachella Valley car dealerships are joining forces to help fight childhood hunger during the summer months.
Honda of the Desert and Toyota of the Desert are among 10 California dealerships participating in the annual Drive Out Hunger Campaign through the Ken Garff Automotive Group.
As part of the effort, employees are assembling nearly 2,000 red bags filled with nonperishable food items for local students facing food insecurity over summer break.
The bags will be distributed to children at Belle Vista Elementary School and Cathedral City Elementary School before school lets out for the summer.
Dealership leaders say the campaign is especially meaningful because many employees are already involved in community efforts focused on helping children and families in need.
According to Feeding America, one in five children experiences food insecurity, and those challenges can become even greater when school meal programs pause during summer vacation.
Organizers say the campaign is designed to help bridge that gap and ensure more children have access to food while school is out.
