Coachella Data Center Debate Returns to City Council Amid Growing Opposition

The debate surrounding a proposed data center project in Coachella is once again taking center stage as residents gather for another highly anticipated city council meeting.

Supporters and opponents of the controversial proposal are expected to attend Tuesday night’s meeting, where the project returns to the city council agenda for the first time since February.

Outside council chambers, residents opposing the project gathered with signs expressing concerns about potential environmental, health, water and energy impacts tied to the development.

The proposal has sparked weeks of public debate, drawing hundreds of residents to city meetings and town halls.

Among those organizing opposition is local realtor Elizabeth Humphries, who launched the website NotInMyValley.com after hearing concerns from community members looking for more information.

Humphries says the site is intended to help educate residents about the proposal and create a central hub for community engagement surrounding the project.

Meanwhile, the company behind the proposed development, Stronghold Power, has also launched its own website to outline the project’s potential benefits and respond to public concerns.

Company representatives say the platform is meant to improve transparency and keep residents informed as discussions continue.

Still, many residents remain opposed. Community members attending tonight’s meeting say concerns persist over who benefits from the project, arguing the potential environmental and infrastructure costs could outweigh any economic gains for local residents.

The city council meeting is expected to include public comment, with passionate voices from both sides anticipated as the future of the proposed development remains under discussion.
