The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup grew significantly clearer as the United States Men's National Team officially unveiled its 26-man roster. While headline stars like forward Christian Pulisic and midfielder Sebastian Berhalter secured guaranteed positions, manager Mauricio Pochettino sparked widespread debate by opting to carry an unusually heavy defensive rotation of 10 defenders.
The roster's most controversial talking point centers on a high-profile omission. Pochettino chose to leave off rising star Diego Luna, a decision widely viewed as the biggest snub of the selection cycle given Luna's phenomenal success with the national team during the 2025 Gold Cup. Palm Desert standout Luke Ringkamp delivered a masterclass performance at the American Junior Golf Association's (AJGA) prestigious Team TaylorMade Invitational, hosted at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
Ringkamp, who entered the weekend ranked fourth in the national AJGA standings and first overall in California, fired a spectacular 6-under-par 64 in his final round. The Pepperdine commit finished the grueling three-day tournament at an impressive 13-under par, building on early rounds of 65 and 68 to secure a multi-shot victory against one of junior golf's deepest fields. The elite invitation-only tournament is celebrated as one of the most competitive events on the junior circuit and was won last year by Charlie Woods, son of legendary champion Tiger Woods.
Palm Springs Power Summer Baseball Takes the Field
Local summer baseball officially returns to the Coachella Valley this week as the Palm Springs Power return to Palm Springs Stadium to defend their historic league dominance. The three-time defending champions are looking to protect their multi-year title streak under the guidance of manager Casey Dill, who returns to the dugout for his landmark 10th season alongside a completely revamped coaching staff.
The opening weekend festivities begin Friday night as the Power host the Utah Yacks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM, and the evening will conclude with a massive post-game fireworks display at approximately 9:30 PM. The opening weekend schedule wraps up on Sunday with the annual "Heroes of the Diamond" charity exhibition. The special game will feature Power players teaming up alongside active members of the Palm Springs Police and Fire Departments, with all ticket proceeds directly benefiting the Palm Springs Police Officers Association and the Palm Springs Fire Foundation.

UPDATE: The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that one person has died and another two were injured after a home explosion on Ocotillo Rd in Twentynine Palms. Security camera video from a nearby neighbor captured the dramatic blast around 8:28 p.m., followed by a fire that brought a massive emergency response from fire and law enforcement agencies across the Morongo Basin. The burning structure has been confirmed as a residence at 6427 Ocotillo Ave. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail team is conducting the investigation.
