From Flip Flops to FDR, Test Your Holiday Knowledge with Jerry's Pop Quiz
Wednesday, May 27th lands on three unofficial holidays worth celebrating. First up is National Sunscreen Day, established by the National Council of Skin Cancer Prevention and timed right around Memorial Day weekend to get everyone ready for long days in the sun. Paired with that is National Flip Flop Day, observed on the first Wednesday after Memorial Day, a day dedicated to those half-shoes that let your toes breathe free. And rounding out the trio is National Nothing to Fear Day, which ties directly into today's pop quiz theme.
It was 93 years ago that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered one of the most iconic lines in American political history, and that speech is the jumping-off point for two fear-themed trivia questions. Think you know your history and your classic Saturday Night Live sketches? Here are the questions to test yourself before watching the video.
1) One of Roosevelt's most famous speeches ran just 20 minutes long and featured 1,883 words. In one of its opening lines, FDR declared that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. What event was Roosevelt addressing when he delivered that speech?
A) The Great Depression
B) The Red Scare
C) World War II
2) Blue Öyster Cult's 1976 hit "Don't Fear the Reaper" was immortalized in a 2000 Saturday Night Live skit featuring comedian Will Ferrell as a cowbell session musician. But which actor played the role of the studio producer who delivered the now-legendary line, "I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell"?
A) Alec Baldwin
B) Christopher Walken
C) Steve Martin
