Palm Springs 70mm Fest Returns to the Historic Camelot Theatre This Weekend
Film lovers and movie buffs are getting ready for a cinematic experience unlike any other as the Palm Springs 70mm Fest returns May 29 through May 31 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center’s historic Camelot Theatre. Now in its second year, the festival celebrates the rare and immersive 70 millimeter film format, known for its stunning picture quality, rich detail, and larger than life presentation that many movie fans say simply cannot be replicated digitally. Festival director and producer Lauren Wolfer joined NBC Palm Springs to talk about this year’s event, the growing excitement surrounding 70mm film, and why preserving traditional film projection still matters in today’s digital world.
Wolfer says one of the biggest draws of the festival is giving audiences the opportunity to experience movies the way many filmmakers originally intended them to be seen, on film and on the big screen. The three day event will feature a lineup of screenings, special guests, and opportunities for both longtime cinephiles and younger audiences discovering 70mm for the very first time. Organizers say many first time viewers are surprised by just how immersive the format feels, with sharper visuals, deeper color, and an overall cinematic experience that stands apart from standard movie presentations.
In addition to the festival, viewers can also enter a giveaway through the NBC Palm Springs Cool page for a chance to win festival related prizes.
