President Trump Demands Perfect Iran Peace Deal, Celebrates Super Tuesday Primary Sweeps
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump addressed ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran during a high-profile White House Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, emphasizing that any potential peace agreement must be, in his words, "perfect." The meeting comes three months into the conflict with Iran, with a precarious ceasefire holding while both nations navigate complex back-channel diplomacy.
Trump noted that while Iranian officials appear eager to secure an agreement, the current terms remain unsatisfactory to the United States. "Iran is very much intent, they want very much to make a deal," Trump told reporters. "So far, they haven't gotten there. We're not satisfied with it, but we will be. They're negotiating on fumes, but we'll see what happens. Maybe we have to go back and finish it, maybe we don't."
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has been directly involved in the diplomatic discussions, declined to offer a specific timeline for a resolution. Rubio stated that while some interest and progress have been made, the administration will evaluate the viability of the talks over the coming hours and days.
Conflicting Reports and Fuel Pressures
The high-stakes negotiations follow a weekend of mixed messaging from the president's social media accounts, where he claimed on Saturday that a deal was largely negotiated before backtracking on Sunday by emphasizing the word "if" a deal is made.
Concurrently, the White House forcefully rejected reports from Iranian state media claiming to possess a draft framework of the peace terms. The Iranian reports alleged that the draft included the lifting of a U.S. naval blockade and specified that shipping traffic through the critical Strait of Hormuz would be jointly managed by Iran and Oman. Trump administration officials labeled the report a complete fabrication.
Trump also used the meeting to address domestic economic pressures tied to the conflict, reiterating his belief that soaring global oil and gas prices will rapidly drop once a final, comprehensive peace agreement is officially finalized.
Celebrating Primary Runoff Victories
Beyond foreign policy, the Cabinet meeting served as a political victory lap for the administration's domestic influence. Trump celebrated a clean sweep of victories for his endorsed candidates in Tuesday's primary runoffs, drawing special attention to the results in Texas.
In a major political shift, Trump-endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton decisively defeated four-term incumbent Senator John Cornyn by more than 27 percentage points, potentially ending Cornyn's four-decade career in public service.
"Last night was incredible, not only Texas, but so many other places," Trump said, praising the voter turnout and election margins. "The numbers were fantastic, and they've really been that way for a year."
