Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Palm Springs

A fatal officer-involved shooting is under investigation tonight in Palm Springs after police say a man armed with a knife was shot by officers Thursday afternoon.

According to the Palm Springs Police Department, officers responded just before 3:45 p.m. to the area of East Palm Canyon Drive following reports of a man acting erratically and threatening employees with a knife.

Police say officers attempted to de-escalate the situation using less-lethal options before an officer-involved shooting occurred during the encounter. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man involved.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office Force Investigation Division is now leading the investigation. Officials are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have photos or video connected to the case to contact the Palm Springs Police Department.
