Indio Planning Commission Votes Down Oasis at Indio Development
Indio's Planning Commission voted Wednesday night against moving the Oasis at Indio development forward, dealing a significant blow to a project that would have transformed nearly 200 acres of vacant land in the northern part of the city.
The 3-2 vote blocked the proposal from advancing to the City Council. Commissioners cited traffic and environmental concerns in their rejection, and city documents had already acknowledged that some impacts, including air quality and greenhouse gas emissions, would be significant and unavoidable.
The project from developer BH Properties would have brought up to 3,240 multi-family housing units and nearly 2 million square feet of light industrial space to land near Avenue 42 and Interstate 10. We will keep you updated as the future of this project becomes clear.
