New Poll Shows Xavier Becerra Leading California Governor’s Race
A new statewide poll is offering a snapshot of where California’s race for governor stands just days before the primary election.
According to a survey released by the Public Policy Institute of California, Democrat Xavier Becerra currently leads the field with 23% support among likely voters.
He is followed by Republican Steve Hilton at 20%, while businessman Tom Steyer received 15% support.
Also in the mix are Chad Bianco with 13% and former congresswoman Katie Porter at 12%.
The poll was conducted between May 14 and May 18 and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
Under California’s top-two primary system, the two candidates receiving the most votes in next Tuesday’s primary election will advance to face each other in the November general election.
