Mann On The Aisle

“Silver Foxes” Brings Golden Girls Energy, Palm Springs Sass, and Big Laughs to the Stage-Mann on the Aisle review

If The Golden Girls, Will & Grace, and Palm Springs happy hour had a theatrical love child, it would probably look a whole lot like Silver Foxes. Now playing at Revolution Stage Company, this West Coast premiere is exactly the kind of breezy, funny, heartfelt comedy that feels tailor-made for the desert crowd.

Written by veteran TV comedy writers Stan Zimmerman and James Berg — whose credits include The Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls — the show follows a tight-knit group of older gay men navigating aging, friendship, and life in Palm Springs with plenty of sarcasm, cocktails, and emotional baggage along the way.

At the center are Chuck and Benny, ex-lovers turned roommates, played wonderfully by Michael Corbett and Patrick Bristow. Corbett gives Chuck a gruff exterior hiding genuine vulnerability, while Bristow’s Benny is the kind of loyal friend who’d absolutely help you hide a body and then make you dinner afterward. Their chemistry sells every bit of their messy shared history.

Things really get moving when they discover their fabulously flamboyant friend Cecil, played by Jon Morehouse, has basically been forced back into the closet at a homophobic retirement facility. So naturally, the gang launches a rescue mission — helped along by an adorably clueless “twink” played hilariously by Zachary Feuling. The female characters are all played to perfection by Melanie Blue.

Is the script deep? Not really. This is sitcom-style comedy through and through, complete with rapid-fire one-liners and over-the-top characters. But honestly, that’s the point. Silver Foxes isn’t trying to be high drama. It’s trying to make you laugh, feel good, and maybe tear up once or twice before heading out for martinis on Arenas Road.

And you know what? Mission accomplished.
