California Voter Registration Reaches Record High Ahead of Primary Election
California has reached a record number of registered voters as the state prepares for Tuesday’s primary election.
According to the California Secretary of State’s office, more than 23.1 million people are now registered to vote statewide, marking the highest voter registration total in California history.
Democrats continue to make up the largest share of registered voters with approximately 10.4 million registered Democrats statewide. Republicans account for roughly 5.8 million registered voters, while voters with no party preference total around 5.28 million.
Election officials say same-day, also known as conditional voter registration, will remain available at voting centers for Californians who still need to register or update their voter information before casting a ballot.
All active registered voters in California have already been mailed ballots ahead of the primary election. Ballots can be returned by mail, dropped off at official ballot drop boxes, or submitted in person at voting centers through Election Day.
Officials are encouraging voters to confirm their registration status, polling place information, and ballot details online through the California Secretary of State’s office before Tuesday’s election.
The June primary election will help determine which candidates advance to the general election later this year in several high-profile statewide and local races.
