Rebecca Haro Pleads Guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter in Death of Infant Son
Rebecca Haro, the mother accused in the death of her 7-month-old son Emmanuel Haro, pleaded guilty Friday morning to voluntary manslaughter and child endangerment in a Riverside County courtroom.
The plea agreement was reached just before Haro’s scheduled preliminary hearing. In exchange for her guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a murder charge connected to the case. She is expected to serve 12 years and eight months in state prison.
The case has drawn widespread attention across the Coachella Valley since Emmanuel was first reported missing last year. Despite months of investigation, the infant’s body has still not been recovered.
According to prosecutors, Emmanuel died as a result of prolonged abuse. During a press conference following the hearing, Riverside County District Attorney officials said the exact location of the child’s remains is still unknown.
Authorities say Emmanuel’s father, Jake Haro, previously pleaded guilty in October 2025 to charges including second-degree murder, child assault, and filing a false police report. He is currently serving 32 years to life in state prison.
Investigators say one of the most difficult aspects of the case is that Emmanuel has still not been found. Prosecutors acknowledged the plea agreement does not bring closure to the child’s disappearance, but said it ensures both parents are held accountable for their roles in his death.
Officials described the outcome as the best resolution available under the law, while emphasizing that the case remains heartbreaking for investigators and the community alike.
