Turn Up the Heat! Jerry Steffen's Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz Is Back for a Friday Fun Break
Friday, May 29th, 2026 is packed with reasons to celebrate, and NBC Palm Springs meteorologist Jerry Steffen made sure to honor all of them during this morning's Hashtag Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz, brought to you by One Coachella Valley.
Today's holidays included National Coq au Vin Day, a nod to the classic French dish of chicken slow-cooked with red wine, salt pork, mushrooms, and garlic, tracing its roots back to the Burgundy region of France. National Biscuit Day also made the calendar, celebrating the soft, flaky, savory breakfast staple that had more than a few people in the studio craving biscuits and gravy by mid-morning. And rounding things out, National Heat Awareness Day falls on the last Friday in May every year, sponsored by OSHA and the National Weather Service to remind the public about the dangers of rising temperatures.
With heat as the theme, Steffen brought two multiple-choice questions to the desk. Think you know your 80s movie soundtracks and your American presidents? Now is your chance to find out.
1) The up-tempo rock track "The Heat Is On," featuring an electric organ, a wailing saxophone riff, and a soaring guitar solo, became a Billboard Top Ten hit for Glenn Frey of the Eagles in the mid-1980s. The song was specifically written and recorded for the soundtrack of a 1984 motion picture. Which film was it?
A) Beverly Hills Cop
B) Footloose
C) Ghostbusters
2) The famous saying "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" is widely associated with a U.S. politician known for his ability to handle stressful situations, who used versions of this phrase throughout his career as a senator, vice president, and president. Who is it?
A) Harry Truman
B) Ronald Reagan
C) Theodore Roosevelt
