Know Before You Go: South Palm Canyon Bridge Progress and Palm Desert's Walk and Roll Project
It's time for Know Before You Go, your weekly look at construction and road work across the Coachella Valley so you can plan ahead and avoid getting caught in traffic. Joining us live from the CV Sync Traffic Management Center in Thousand Palms is Program Manager Kris Gunterson.
Palm Springs: South Palm Canyon Bridge
Concrete pouring is now underway on the east side of the South Palm Canyon Bridge, and Gunterson says drivers should expect flaggers in the area as heavy equipment moves in and out of the site. The work is happening in the early morning hours to beat the heat, so you may notice the activity on your way in to work.
Gunterson says there shouldn't be major delays, but drivers should slow down and stay alert around the construction zone. If you'd rather avoid the area altogether, Sunny Dunes or Mesquite up to Bellardo Road offers a good bypass.
Palm Desert: Walk and Roll Project
The Walk and Roll Project in Palm Desert is in its final stages, with crews working at night to slurry seal roads, fill cracks, and restripe lanes to include bike lanes, buffer lanes, and updated lane widths. Gunterson says the new striping meets current standards for autonomous vehicles and will include green-painted bike lanes when complete.
Because the work happens overnight, daytime drivers should expect to see stick-down reflective tabs, called tabbies, and pre-striping hash marks on the road surface. Those temporary markings can look a little confusing, so Gunterson says to slow down, stay alert, and follow the flow of traffic around you. The finished result will mean fresh pavement and clearly marked lanes across a wide stretch of Palm Desert streets.
As always, you can track road conditions and plan your route at cv-sync.com. Drive safely and have a great week.
